The HAWK Hochschule Hildesheim/Holzminden/Goettingen, established in 1971 under the decree of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Education and Science, focuses on engineering and further technical disciplines, business-related studies, social work, health sciences and design in its range of courses. Six faculties at three locations, 100 km apart from each other, offer a wide and partly unique spectrum of 26 bachelor and 18 master programmes. With around 6.300 students in total, the HAWK is one of the medium-sized universities, its headquarters being located in Hildesheim. The common mission of applied research and development implies a distinct application-oriented focus and professional character of studies, which include integrated and supervised work assignments in industry, enterprises or other relevant institutions as well as dual study courses. International cooperation agreements are the basis for mobility in studying and teaching and for projects in knowledge and technology transfer and applied research. Research priorities of HAWK focus on the key areas in laser and plasma technology, sustainable production and use of biogenic resources, integrated urban and regional development, as well as on participation in two European Horizon 2020 projects dealing with renewable and waste heat recovery (Project REWARDHeat) and migrant integration aspects in Europe (Project MIMY).
